I am a 3rd year PhD student (Sep. 2007 - present) in Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Washington. Before coming to UW, I received my Master degree in the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University in 2007 and Bachelor degree in the same department in 2005. I like applying optimization theory, modeling techniques and algorithms in real word problems. My research focuses on operation management problems that evolve over time (dynamic) and involve uncertainty (stochastic). They are interesting and challenging because 1) the structural property of the problem provide straightforward yet powerful tools to managers; 2) the inherent uncertainty and trade-offs make the solution ambiguous and dependent on numerous factors; 3) the combinatorial nature or large scale often makes the problem computationally intrackable. My work is to study such problems both analytically and computationally. Besides, I am also very interested in application of optimization in other areas, such as computer vision, machine learning, bioinformatics, networks and finance. In my past courses and internship, I have done projects in these topics and find them interesting and inspiring. |
