Focusing on the Path Ahead!

Welcome to the CDO website. The CDO team is here to assist UW physics and astronomy students in their career advancement. We organize seminars and workshops specifically designed to focus on issues of career advancement for scientists. We also, in conjunction with the Department of Physics, annually host a Networking Day which brings representatives from the broader science and technology based community to the Department to interact with students in a one-on-one basis.

Mission Statement

The Career Development Organization (CDO) at the University of Washington is a registered student organization of physics and astronomy graduate students. Its mission is to assist physics/astronomy students and post doctoral fellows in their career advancement by organizing career seminars, compiling relevant employment data and preparatory information, and offering networking opportunities.

To remain competitive in the job market, physicists and astronomers need to augment their analytic and problem-solving skills with flexibility, leadership, and cross-disciplinary aptitude. The activities and services of CDO are intended to inform about these challenges, and to help prepare for a successful transition to their next venture.
