Glacier Bay Capstone Cruise

Day Three Already!
Yesterday it snowed quite a bit. Today it is just foggy again but the views are great (what we can see of them). Last night apparantly something pretty awesome happened. We got out of Canadian waters about 2am this morning (We're officially in Alaska! Yay!!). Anyway around 11pm, the Canadian pilots we had onboard went home and they jumped from our ship to the one who came out to meet them! No harnasses, no life jackets just jumped! We didn't even slow down... were going about 12 knots at the time! Could you imagine? Not me! Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it... I was studying for my exam but I have been told we have it on video. Which brings me to my next event... I took my physical ocean final this morning. I did as well as I could but at least it's over. That's what I am most happy about. Now... I can enjoy being in Alaska! We should get to Glacier Bay tomorrow afternoon so I will keep you posted! Gotta go now... it's lunch time. Love everyone! Day One - Saturday
This morning I had a nice surprise. Christine and Brandon made name tags for the doors of our berths and put them up last night after I went to sleep. They are super cute. Mine is a sailboat and Gwen's (my roomie) is a whale. I am rather jealous that she got the whale though. *Laugh* We were at Texada Island about 4pm and had to slow down to wait for the tides to be right to head up through the narrows. We were informed that we are taking the inside passage up and down and picked up two Canadian pilots about 4am this morning to help us navigate the islands and get us through safely. The crew has been great and the food is really good. I actually managed to be up for breakfast this morning (at 7am!!) which I know will surprise all of you. Aboard ship you have to be there during the hour that they serve meals or you go without (although they do through leftovers in the fridges for people who are on watch till late). I've taken lots of pictures already but will have to save those for post after I get back because due to the satelite time, we only have the connection speed of dialup. Oh... and I can get email on my hotmail account... they don't want us to get a Thompson account for 12 days. Talk to everyone later! Cathy |
