Year: Freshman

Major:Political Science and Law, Societies, and Justice

What do you hope to achieve in your position this year: My main focus for Black Student Union this year is to bring our focus back to 1968. The Civil Rights Movement is not over and I think it is important for us to reconnect with our original purpose. Not only is it important for me to protect and uphold BSU's positive image on the campus and in the community, but I also resolve to stay informed and act quickly on issues pertaining to BSU. I am proud of our officers and members and I am certain that BSU will continue its legacy throughout this school year and into the future.

One piece of advice for new students: New students need to know that their college experience can be whatever they want it to be. They can join a million clubs or they can join none. They can be involved in student government or they can join a dance team... or both. They can meet tons of people or stick with a small group of close friends. They can study what they want to study and they can use their degree however they choose. When you enter college, you enter a world that allows you to take responsibility for your own life and to make your own choices. You can take away whatever you want from this journey, and no one can ever tell you that you were wrong. It's personal and it's you. Just make sure that when you finish your college career, you can look back at it and say, "I did exactly what I wanted to do and I set myself up for exactly where I need to be."

What do you love about the UW: I love the University of Washington because it's in my blood. You know you're a Husky when you're born on campus... I was a dawg from the womb. My parents are both immigrants from Nigeria and they came to this country because of this school. My dad got two engineering degrees (aeronautical and industrial) and my mom has one in business administration. I'm proud of their hard work and dedication because it inspired me to work hard for higher education as well. I love this school because it was shaped by so many different people, and because I have mentors and role models here. I love this school because I believe in it, and although it's not perfect, I think we can get it there one step at a time.
