My Senior Thesis

Hello All! My name is Brittany Kimball and I am a double major in Oceanography and Earth and Space Sciences (ESS). Originally I had intended to be soley an ocean major, but then realized how much I enjoy geology. Next year I will be a "super" senior, i.e. I will be in my 5th year of college.

I have decided to do my senior thesis on the hormone estradiol contained within certain birth control pills. Recent findings have discovered estradiol contained within the sediments of Puget Sound and the tissues of fish inhabiting that sediment. Estradiol and it's synthetic counterpart has acted as a contaminant to these fish species by preventing them from producing young. For my thesis, I will collect sediment within Puget Sound using a Van Veen Grab Sampler and a Multi-Core. I will perform chemical analyses on these samples to determine the concentrations of estradiol within the sediment.

Keep checking my website to see my progress! My paper will be completed in 2008.

I'm Back!!!

Due to my trip to Antarctica, I took a little hiatus from working on my thesis. This was unfortunate considering how excited I was about my topic, however all was not lost. I am now attending the UW once again, and am ready to complete my undergraduate degrees (Oceanography and ESS), as well as my thesis.

Keep checking this website for updates!

Adam Rules!

Adam showed me an easier way of attaching my files to my website. When you go to the "My Assignments" link, there are other links on that page for my rough draft proposal and other assignments. If you want to read up on it, there you go...

Thesis Topic Outline

My thesis topic outline is now on my website in my "My Assginments" link. There are a few alterations that I have to make according to formatting since copy and paste made my life more difficult. But it is up and ready to be read!

Topic Summary

I still can't really figure out how to make my word document into a PDF so I went ahead and changed my "My Assignments" link into a link that will take you to my Topic Summary. I hope that isn't cofusing to any of the professors and I will seek your guidance soon so that I can change my assignments into PDF.

Hehehe! Hope you all enjoy my summary! :)

Antarctica

A few weeks ago, I was told by Chuck Nittrouer that there was an opportunity for me to go to Antarctica on a grant.

He gave me time to think about it, and I have since decided to go. This however puts of my graduation even further, so I will not be graduating until June of 2008.

This is an amazing opportunity for me and I am looking forward to it.

I will continue to post more about this as I learn more.
