UW BMES activities are planned and coordinated by officers and their committees. Currently, several officers are forming committees. This is your chance to help realize activities that you want to see happen and gain leadership experience in the process. The following blurbs were submitted by officers currently forming committees. Please contact them to get involved!

Kevin Seals, Medical Chair:

The medical committee of BMES is looking for dedicated individuals to help plan a medically themed meeting, and to pursue some larger (and currently undetermined) project. Planning the meeting will involve contacting and scheduling a speaker from the medical community, which presents a nice networking opportunity. Some options for the “larger project” include creating a physician shadowing service for our members, a BMES physician brown bag lunch series — anything that creates a promising new opportunity for members interested in health care.

Zak Kenyon, Academic Chair:

I will be organizing a number of academic speakers for the BMES general meetings. If anyone knows of a professor or researcher who would like to come and present their work at a BMES meeting please let me know. I also hope to organize a graduate student panel to give out some tips and tricks for applying to graduate school. Other than that I am open to ideas any of you might have for making this BioE experience a little better. I don’t plan on forming an official committee unless I get flooded with good ideas for events so like I said earlier contact me if you’ve got some ideas.

Ashwini Pai, Industry Committee

We are going to be focusing on providing ample industry opportunities for BioE students in industry. Starting form doing company visits to having industry mixers and panels. The committee will work as an out-reach program for students wanting to go to industry by providing resources, networking opportunities and connections to make the transition from school to industry. The ideas we have so far for this year (apart form various speakers from industry) are:

Autumn - company visit
Winter - industry panel, career and internship workshops
Spring - industry mixer.

Other ideas/help to make these events happen (and gain opportunities to network in industry) are welcome.

Contact: Ashwini Pai
