Bioengineering Career Panel

For the 2008 UW career discovery week…BMES is organizing a:

bioengineering career panel
on     29th January, Tuesday.
In      Foege N130A
from  3:30-5:00pm

The panel will be hosted by our Academic Counselor, Kelli Jayn Nichols and will feature the following bioengineers in Industry:
Dean Pettit
Executive Director of Process and Product Development at Amgen Washington Site
Brian Albarran
Scientist II, Process Development at Trubion Pharmaceuticals.
Amy Peterson
Vice President Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance at Northstar Neuroscience
Pierre D. Mourad
Co-Founder and Consulting Scientist of Ultreo

It will be a great insight for all of you who are planning to go into industry and a good session for everyone else who wants to know about the field. There is absolutely no substitute for talking to people who actually work in fields that interest you.  They have “been there, done that,” and can give you the very BEST advice about how to pursue a successful career. Career Discovery Week happens only once a year - don’t miss it!!

Upcoming Outreach Activity

There is an excellent on-site Outreach event event in January / February. We can help with the Youth Take Heart program and teach parents and students about BioE while doing hands on activities! There are 3 sessions per day about 1 hour each, and you can come to one or more, just let me know if you’re interested and I’ll save you a spot.

When:      Monday, January 28th and Monday, February 4th
Where:     Foege Conference Room (N130)
Who:         50 parents and students (each day)

Schedule:
8:30 - 9:45    BioE Power Point with finger activity
12:30 - 1:30   Help students and their parents design an experiment to test the properties of a material, to see if it would make a good artificial blood vessel
1:30 - 2:15    Help students and parents analyze their experiments, and relate it to the work of real bioengineers.

First General Meeting

All Bioengineering students are invited to the first BMES meeting of the quarter on Monday, 10/8/2007 at 5:00 in Foege N130.

MESA Saturday Academy, Saturday Oct 20, 12-3 PM
“Adventures in Medicine” — High schoolers can learn about cool careers and new research that they may have never heard of. BMES members can help present and do hands on activities with the high school juniors. See http://www.seattlemesa.org for more information.

Life Sciences Research Week, Nov 8-11, 10 AM - 2 PM each day
BMES has been recruited to sponsor an activity table for this event at the Pacific Sciences Center. We need volunteers for those times at any increment of times to talk to people and present information - Implants and Bioengineering. Free parking is available.
