Summer Entomolology
I found a beautiful Polyphylla decimlineata (Ten-Striped June Beetle).
It is quite large (32 mm) and flew right into our window with a thump. It makes a shrill noise when poked or moved, but otherwise it was quite content to sit on my finger while dad took pictures. View the picture full size - the big blue compound eye is beautiful with this flash.

Reptilian Rivalries Break Loose in Florida

The scene upon the arrival of our reporter. You can see the tyrannosaurus devouring the entwined bodies of the python and the alligator. The chicken soon shared their piteable fate.
Florida, the United States of America.
In a startling and frankly terrifying development we have seen a sharp increase in violence in the florida bayou. Tragically, reptile turned on fellow reptile in an unthinkable scene of brutality. The incident, locals reported, began when a large Burmese Python tried to take advantage of an injured alligator. Midway down the tyranical python's throat the alligator began to lash out in a feeble plea for life managed to burst free of the python's constricting digestive track. Sadly, neither the python nor the alligator were destined to survive. For stalking over the horizon came yet another fearsome reptile: the DREADED FLORIDA TYRANISORUS REX! Colonel Sanders, on vacation in Katrinaland, attempted to save the tragic pair by distracting the T-Rex with a super-fatty-bucket of greasy fried chicken, but the monster simply slew the neodinos and then swallowed chicken, colonel, and bog in one bite.
