"Jesse, I think this can work as long as it is clear to the students that
CHID's
role in this process is to help foster a dialog between experience and
thought -- and that our role will be as a critical counterpart in the process...
Also, we should work to bring people from other faith communities (or lack
thereof!) into the mix as well. We should think about how to do that...
Jim"
In other words, let us take this opportunity to make CHID and the wider university proud of our scholarship and service to the broader community, and help them look good in the process (they're taking a big risk by allowing us to organize in this fashion). Speaking of community outreach, we should recall the beloved Guardian of the Cause, Shoghi Effendi's earnest request that we make:
"association[s] with
clubs, exhibitions, and societies, lectures on subjects
akin to the teachings
and ideals of [H]is Cause such as temperance, morality,
social welfare,
religious and racial tolerance, economic cooperation, Islam,
and Comparative
Religion, or participation in social, cultural, humanitarian,
charitable, and
educational organizations and enterprises which... can enlist
successively the
support, and ultimately the allegiance of those with whom he
comes in contact"
(Advent
of Divine Justice, p. 51).
