Meet water resources professionals from around the state!

    Meet professionals in water-related fields and listen to an interesting talk!

  • UW Professor Dave Montgomery will speak about river morphology and salmon

    Friday, May 11: Spring General Meeting

    Socialize, hear about our upcoming events, and listen to an interesting talk!

  • Talk: "Visualization of the Elwha Dam Removal" by Ross Freeman of American Rivers
  • Ross Freeman will be speaking about the background behind the decision to take down the Elwha dams, and will present a computer generated visualization of how the Elwha river will look after the dams come out. This meeting will help provide some background information for the Elwha Camping Trip, June 8-9.
  • Free PIZZA, snacks, and beverages will be served!

    Friday, May 25: Yakima Project Field Trip

    Join us for a field trip to see the Yakima Project.

  • There will be a tour of Roza dam, including the fish ladder and tagging facility
  • See Chinook being anaesthetized and tagged!
  • Other possible sites include an irrigation diversion canal and a fish hatchery
  • More information regarding schedule, carpooling, etc will be forthcoming.


    June 8-9: Elwha River Field Trip

    Join us for a field trip to see the Elwha River and learn about the issues surrounding the impending dam removal.

  • There will be tours of the dam and the river mouth!
  • Opportunities for hiking and camping!

    Tuesday, October 10: Fall Kickoff Meeting

    Interested in water resources, hydrology, water quality, fluvial geomorphology, aquatic ecology, or any other water-related topic? If so, AWRA is the group for you.

    The UW student chapter of the American Water Resources Association is looking for new members and new officers. If you're interested in a career in water resources or want to get to know people in the campus water world, join AWRA! Everyone is welcome.

    Saturday, October 14: Duwamish River Watershed Restoration

  • What: Help People for Puget Sound remove invasives and plant native vegetation on the Duwamish River! This is also a great opportunity to learn about the Duwamish River's history and ecology.
  • When: Work will go from 10 am to 2 pm. After that, you have the option to attend a ceremony honoring John Beal, a Vietnam veteran who dedicated his post-war life to restoring the Duwamish River's habitat, from 2-4 pm at the Hamm Creek site.
  • Bring: Sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing for weather, sack lunch, lots of water. Tools and work gloves if you have them, but People for Puget Sound has some to spare.
  • RSVP: Please email Ted Bohn by October 6 at tbohn@hydro.washington.edu to RSVP, and please let him know if you will need a ride or if you have a ride (and if so, how many other people you can take). Also indicate whether you will attend the ceremony for John Beal or will return early.
  • Rides: Meet at the East parking lot of the Fisheries Science Building at 9:00 AM. We'll be back by 2:30 pm or 4:30 pm, depending on whether you attend the ceremony afterwards.

  • Dr. Jessica Lundquist, of the UW Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, will present "The Pulse of the Mountains: Cycles in Streamflow".

    Saturday, November 4: Pipers Creek (Carkeek Park) Restoration

  • What: Help The Green Seattle Partnership remove invasives and plant native vegetation in the Pipers Creek wetlands! Years of hard work by neighbors and volunteers have brought salmon back to Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park. This is part of Green Seattle Day, a day of multiple restoration projects around Seattle, all working towards the vision of a city with invasive-free, sustainable forested parklands.
  • When: Work will go from 10 am to 2 pm.
  • Where: Meet at the Carkeek Park kiosk overlooking Puget Sound, near the railroad overpass bridge.
  • Bring: Sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing for weather, sack lunch, lots of water. Tools and work gloves if you have them.
