description & mission

The University of Washington student chapter of ASIST&T at the Information School is proud to announce the second annual iEdge Conference on April 2nd 2008. This year, our half-day conference will be based on the theme Information: Crafting Our Future. The purpose of iEdge is to provide a venue for students involved in library and information science disciplines to explore their visions of the future of the information professions, and gain exposure to current research and practice in a variety of information fields. The programming will draw on the knowledge and viewpoints of academic and professional luminaries, entrepreneurs and students from the many fields that impact how information is produced, designed, organized and disseminated.

In order to capture the critical areas of concern for students preparing to enter the information profession, the session programming of speakers, panels and workshops will be formatted around three themed tracks:

A keynote speaker will be invited to kickoff iEdge to speak about contemporary issues facing the information community. Conference events will culminate in a Student Poster Session that will showcase University of Washington students' recent innovative and creative intellectual undertakings and projects. The poster session will be held in conjunction with a reception and mixer to encourage a mingling of ideas and cross-pollinating conversations between students, faculty and professionals.

Everyone involved in the wider UW community will be encouraged to attend and participate. In order to enable the greatest breadth of attendance, iEdge will be a free event. We are currently engaged in seeking financial support and sponsorship, by offering connections to the dynamic community of students and professionals who are actively engaged in the information disciplines.
