iEdge 2007 will be a half-day conference focused on translating research into practice. We have identified three tracks of interest to students: Information is Social, Information is Practical and Information is People. Featured speakers will include faculty, alumni, students and professionals from the area. iEdge 2007 has been generously funded by a grant from the Learning for Leadership Council.
Overview of the three tracks planned:
- Information is Social:
The mission of the Information is Social track is to teach attendees to leverage research in order to create connections, relationships and learning opportunities through information. - Information is People:
The mission of the Information is People track is to teach attendees to leverage research to design systems that empower people. - Information is Practical:
The mission of the Information is Practical track is to teach attendees to leverage research to enhance their day-to-day professional lives and envision information solutions for the future.
iEdge 2007 is open to anyone affiliated with the UW, including faculty, staff, students and alumni. The conference is free but registration is required.
Keynote Speaker: Stu Weibel
Stuart Weibel is a Senior Research Scientist at OCLC (and recently a visiting scholar on sabbatical at the University of Washington's iSchool). His keynote will explore aspects of this year's iEdge symposium:
iEdge 2007: So What? Research into Practice
- Information is people: Which people, and how will I recognize them?
- Information is social: Effective social systems are based on trust - whence trust in the digital age?
- Information is practical: How do we channel the explosive innovation of the Web 2.0 environment into durable systems that will survive the next trendy wave?
