2008 iWelcome Week Tour of Special Collections

The tour of Special Collections was an amazing success! Over 40 people came to learn about what Special Collections does and get a tour of the facilities from Nicole Bouche, the Pacific Northwest curator.

Nicole gave the students some great advice about working in Special Collections. Here's what she had to say:

If you wish to arrange for a field study or volunteer position in Special Collections, contact the appropriate curator EARLY in the game to give as much planning lead time as possible; at least 1 quarter, and usually more is best. Due to staffing constraints in Special Collections, only a limited number of students can be accommodated at any given time.

If you would like to work in Special Collections in a paid student position, keep an eye out for postings at the end/beginning of each quarter, and let a curator know of your interest, so that we can keep you in mind. Paid positions are most likely to be found in Reader Services and Technical Processing. For the most part curators do not have separate funding for students, except when we have secured short-term grant or gift funding for a special project.
