September 19, 2005 — Meeting Minutes
Pending approval/corrections at next APC meeting.
Attendees: Carolyn Dunford, Woods Fairbanks, Rose McLendon, Linda Wagner
- Approved minutes from June 1, 2005 meeting.
- Discussed upcoming events:
- iSchool Welcome Fair to be held on Monday 9/26/2005 in MGH Commons. Everyone attending the meeting plans on being at the Fair. Linda wondered if APC could get money from the iSchool to help with booth refreshments (and future activities); Rose suggested going to ALISS. Woods will approach ALISS officers in securing funds.
Discussed what should be on the booth to attract new students. Suggestions included: 1-page informational flyers describing the club, past activities, etc. (Carolyn to rework existing flyer); a laptop to show a slideshow of photos from an archives (Rose to create slideshow and bring laptop); and treats (Linda to bring).
Also mentioned was creating a banner for future events with said ALISS funds. - Brownbag session to be held on Monday 9/26/2005 in MGH 420. Discussion focused on what sort of content the club should present. Decided upon:
- Introduction to the club, archives and preservation in general, us, etc.
- Former members to recount past club experiences (possibly Lauren Manes, Shannon Lynch)
- Woods to present a PowerPoint on the SAA annual meeting in New Orleans
- A rundown of future events
- Ask the attendees what sorts of things they’d like to do
Woods plans to find out how we can borrow recording equipment to audio record the event. It was suggested that the iSchool main desk would have such equipment.
Linda to bring cookies (all of us to chip in money).
- Lorraine McConaghy lecture on Thursday 10/6/2005 at MOHAI. Decided on time options for Dr. McConaghy’s iSchool seminar following her MOHAI lecture: Wednesday 10/12, 4:30pm; Thursday 10/13, 3:00pm and later. All agreed to come up with questions for the seminar’s Q & A session.
- Sandra Kroupa talk. Still need to set up this talk. All decided that November would be a good month. Linda suggested that a good presentation topic would be preservation. Woods to make contact with Sandra about talk.
- Nicolette Bromberg Martin Chambi [Collection] talk. Still need to set up this talk, but are waiting for Nicolette to make contact with [the] Martin Chambi [contact person] before this can be scheduled (Nicolette’s rules). All decided that this would be a good December or January event.
- Mentioned sending out an e-mail to the APC listserv asking all recent graduates if they want to come to iCareer Week in January. Next meeting will focus on iCareer Week planning.
- Website/listserv update: Carolyn made an events archive. Linda suggested having the upcoming events on the main home page instead of as a link. Rose suggested switching the "Events" link and the "About Us" content so that the "About Us" is a link. Carolyn agreed to make the changes. Carolyn relayed that APC has shared server space on the iSchool server. It was agreed that the space should store meeting minutes, audio recordings, etc., for future club use.
- Rose discussed Community Liaison plans, which are to attend local archives organizations (Seattle Area Archivists, Northwest Archivists, et al.) meetings. Carolyn brought up the fact that past officers were hazy on what exactly the Community Liaison duties were.
- Tabled rest of meeting agenda (items 7b-10a) for next meeting.
- Next Meeting: Monday 10/3/2005, 4:00pm in the iSalon [student lounge] – all students welcome.
