February 2, 2005 — Meeting Minutes
- Attendance: 12 people!
- Gina was there to represent Western Washington University's Archives and Records Management Program. The program is run out of the History department, so the 2-year degree is actually a Master's in history, but there is also a 1-year Archival Certification program. The ARM program has one dedicated faculty member, Randall Jimerson, current President of The Society of American Archivists. Gina also said she feels that the combination of MLIS and Archival Certification is very desirable to potential employers.
- Joshua discussed the American Historical Association's recent conference in Seattle, the theme of which was Archives and Artifacts. Among the topics of interest were archives in China and finding aids (and ease of use). This prompted a discussion of users, particularly historians, and their levels of satisfaction with finding aids and EAD, and the searchability of EAD and non-EAD finding aids.
- Future events discussed, particularly as pertains to the Archives class that is going on this term,
since they don't get any field trips or guest speakers:
- Special Collections Visual Materials tour
- NARA tour?
- Sandra's Show&Tell
- Film Night is happening spring quarter
- Other tours as needed by the Archives class? - email us if you have ideas!
- Pub night after an Archives class session - 6:30 on a Thursday (schmoozing and recruitment!)
- Joshua is putting all his American Archivist back-issues in the iSalon for your perusal.
