Archives of the Archives Listserv
Archives@listserv.muohio.edu is the official listserv of the Society of American Archivists; subscribe or read the archives to stay up to date on the current events and news of the archival community.
King County Archives and Records Management
The holdings of the King County Archives date from 1853 and are in many formats, including paper, maps, photographs, and audio and video recordings. The Puget Sound Regional Branch of the Washington State Archives holds some of the King County Archives' materials. All records are available for public research.
National Archives and Records Administration's Pacific Alaska Region
The Pacific Alaska branch of NARA is located in Seattle and includes all federal records pertaining to the region, which includes Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. Genealogy records are the most popular, including census records, immigration records, court records, military service records, and more. The facility also holds other historical records such as textual documents, photographs, maps, and architectural drawings.
Northwest Archivists
The Northwest Archivists, Inc. is a regional association of professional archivists, users of archives, and others interested in the preservation and use of archival materials in the Pacific Northwest United States, including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
Puget Sound Regional Branch of the Washington State Archives
This repository holds part of the collections of the King County Archives as well as the Seattle Municipal Archives, in addition to its own local government records from the Clerk, the Auditor, the Treasurer, and other county offices.
Seattle Area Archivists
This organization was formed to allow local archivists to network and share professional resources and information. They put on occasional events with local archival professionals and others; the group is open to anyone with an interest in archives or preservation. Annual dues are $10.
Seattle Municipal Archives
The Municipal Archives holds almost 6000 cubic feet of textual records, 3000 maps and drawings, 3000 audiotapes, 1000 videotapes, and over 1.5 million photographs. All holdings are public records. The most popular holdings are housed at the City Hall; a large part of the holdings are held at the Puget Sound Branch of the Washington State Archives.
Society of American Archivists
Founded in 1936, SAA is North America's oldest and largest national archival professional association. SAA's mission is to serve the educational and informational needs of more than 3,400 individual and institutional members and to provide leadership to ensure the identification, preservation, and use of records of historical value.
University of Washington Special Collections
The UW Special Collections include Archives, Manuscripts, Photographs, the Pacific Northwest Collection, the Book Arts/Rare Books Collection, Historical Maps, Travel Literature, Architecture, Historical Children's Literature, and more. The collections are open to the public, although viewing some of the more rare holdings requires an appointment. All collections are non-circulating.
Washington State Archives
The Washington State Archives is dedicated to documenting the history of public government in Washington State. The WSA helps make government more efficient by making it easier for offices to find the most current and accurate information in a timely manner, and enhances government accountability by preventing the untimely destruction of vital information.
