RECYCLE A PHONE

BUILD A SCHOOL!

Hey UW, get rid of that old cell phone in your dresser drawer!

We've partnered with Charity Cellular, and are collecting used phones, iPods, and mp3 players (in any condition). The phones will be memory wiped, sent overseas, refurbished, and put back onto the market. The refurbisher pays us, and we give the money to World Vision to build a school for kids who might not otherwise have one.

Essentially: 1. you get rid of your junk phone 2. the earth benefits from not having another phone in a landfill 3. used phones become available for lower prices for those in need 4. underprivileged children get a school/education.

Collection Box Locations:

  • All dorms
  • Health Sciences Library
  • Odegaard Library
  • Foster Library
  • HUB info desk
  • More Hall Office

Cell Phone Facts:

  • Cell phone users in the U.S. replace their phone every 12-18 months
  • There are 500 million cell phones lying dormant in junk drawers across the country.
  • Most retired cell phones still work or can be repaired and placed back on the market.
  • A single cell phone can contaminate 40,000 gallons of ground water yet as many as 60 million end up in land fills each year.
  • People in poor countries often can afford cell phones which are critical for efficient commerce.
  • Donating your cell phones could mean a better life for someone!
