Anime Discovery Project:About
From Anime Discovery Project
[edit] A brief history of the ADP
"In late 1991, a group of students at the University of Washington discovered that they had the same interest in something that was similar to, yet significantly different from, American animation. They never had the time to get together to watch it... so they formed a club."
I've always liked the way that Gary (We think) put the beginnings of the ADP; these days, the Anime Discovery Project is a registered student organization since 1991) at the University of Washington. In addition to its purpose to show anime, discuss it, and have fun together, we also strive to broaden Seattle interest in Japanese animation and culture. We hold showings weekly every quarter (well, mostly), filling them with a wide variety of English-subtitled anime TV shows, OAVs, and movies, as well as being in possession of fansub library that our members can borrow tapes from. Best of all, we have a office with a computer, VCR and TV that the general public is invited to visit and vegetate in, or even come in to ask us questions!
The ADP is one of the largest anime clubs in the Pacific Northwest, with our quarterly membership ranging from 50 to 80 members, depending on the quarter. While that may sound intimidating, our officers make every effort to know everyone by name (and some of us at least partially succeed). Our members vary from UW attendees and employees to local high school students to Microsoft slaves, meaning that no matter who you are, there's likely to be somebody you can get along with. Membership is on a quarterly basis, and entitles you to attend showings and borrow tapes from us, with your fee going towards us maintaining our library and advertising our presence to the UW.
The ADP is "run" by seven officers and a host of volunteers and idea people (if you're interested in volunteering, contact us and we'll tell you what's involved). While more personal bios can be found on the Officers page, the current officers are listed here with their (supposed) duties:
