Psycholinguistic experiments
The U. of Mississippi psychology department has some fun online experiments.  The "dichotic listening", "lateralized Stroop effect", and "lexical decision" tasks, as well as a few others, are of particular interest to linguists.

HW 4
Remember that the fourth homework assignment is due on Wednesday before lecture. You do not have to type this assignment. Please bring your questions about it to section on Tuesday (or check GoPost to see if they've already been answered).

Slides, and HW 3

Two things:

Dr Curtis has made Friday's lecture slides available on her webpage.

The third homework, on morphology, was given as a handout in Thursday's sections. Please ask me for a copy before or after Monday's lecture if you haven't gotten it yet.

Homework, and morphology

Two homework hints:

For problem 1.6, make sure that you're only looking at the palatal fricatives when you write out your chart of environments. There are a couple of voiceless palatal affricates in the data too, but we're not interested in those for this problem.

For problem 1.8, ask for help if you feel like you don't understand the instructions.

Dr Curtis started on the morphology section in lecture today. You will be responsible for all of chapter 5.

Homework and phonology

The phonetics homework will be due Wednesday; we will also be assigning a homework on the phonology section, that will be due next week.

The reading you will be responsible for in chapter 4 is sections 4.0-4.5. Keep checking the main LING 200 website for updates and a "Key Concepts" sheet to download.

The first announced quiz will be in sections this Thursday, 4/12. It will be on phonology, and will be open book/ open notes.

Office hours change

Due to a conflict with another committment, I will be changing my office hours both this week and next. Wed. 4/4 and Wed. 4/11, I'll be in Suzzallo Espresso from 11:30-12:20 pm. In addition, I'll be available Mon., 4/9, from 12-2, in my office, Art 333. I'm sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this may cause.

Also, note the updated reading assignment: read sections 3.1-3.7 for this week. The first homework will be on this chapter (no definite homework assignment has been given yet).

Reading assignments

Start looking at sections 3.1-3.3 for next week.

Updated reading assignments will appear on the LING 200 main page (link at left). It may sometimes take a day or two after they are announced in lecture to get assignments updated on the webpage; you can ask or email me if you have questions.

Bluebooks
We'll be discussing the question from the end of today's lecture in section tomorrow, so give it some thought. For Friday and future lectures, make sure you have a bluebook with you-- we'll be asking you to turn in your answer to this kind of question at the end of lecture.
